How They're Wired Terms of Service

Effective: October 2, 2026 · Version: 0.1 · These Terms are a contract between you and Family Insights LLC, an Illinois limited liability company ("How They're Wired," "we," "us").

1. Who can use How They're Wired

You may use How They're Wired only if all of the following are true: - You are at least 18 years old. - You are the parent or legal guardian of any child you describe, or you have been invited by that child's parent or legal guardian to describe the child (for example, as a co-parent), and you describe the child only for that parent's or guardian's use. - You are located in the United States for any purchase (we currently sell only to US billing addresses). - You agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy, and you re-accept them when we ask you to after a material change.

Children may not use How They're Wired. Do not let a child answer questions, and do not enter information a child has given you for the purpose of entering it. We may close accounts that appear to belong to or be used by a minor.

2. What How They're Wired is — and is not

How They're Wired is an educational service for parents. It asks you questions about your child's everyday behavior in different settings, and it gives you back a written description of patterns in your own answers, with suggestions of things to try. Its purpose is to help you notice and describe your child more clearly.

How They're Wired is not: - a medical, psychological, developmental or educational assessment, screening, test or diagnosis of any kind; - a risk score, a prediction, or a statement that your child "has," "may have," or "shows signs of" any condition; - therapy, psychotherapy, counseling, or treatment, or a substitute for any of them; - advice about medication, schooling placement, custody, or any legal or medical decision.

Our results can be wrong. They describe tendencies your answers suggest, in the contexts you described, at one moment in time. We show you the evidence behind each section and ask you to rate whether it fits precisely so you can disagree. Any line suggesting you "talk to a professional" is general information, not a referral or a clinical opinion. Any AI feature we offer is limited to parenting education and will say so; we do not provide AI-delivered therapy or mental-health services.

Do not use How They're Wired results in custody, school-placement, medical or legal proceedings as evidence of anything about a child. They were not designed for that and we do not consent to that use.

3. Your account

We sign you in with an emailed magic link; keep your email account secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. One account per adult; you may describe more than one child. Tell us promptly at support@howtheyrewired.com if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

4. Your content and our content

Your answers and stories belong to you. You give us a license to store, process and display them to you and to anyone you explicitly invite, to generate your results, and — only if you opt in — to use them in de-identified form for research. You can revoke everything by deleting your account.

Do not enter a child's full name, date of birth beyond month and year, photos, school, address, health or diagnosis information, or information about anyone else's child without their parent's permission.

Our content — questions, item banks, result templates, reports, text, design and software — is owned by Family Insights LLC or its licensors. You may use your results for your personal, non-commercial purposes, share them with your child's other caregivers, and print them. You may not copy the questions, scrape the service, resell reports, or use the service to build a competing product.

5. Purchases, pricing and refunds

Products (as of v0.1): a free quiz for one child; a paid written Report (currently $24); a family bundle (currently $39); and a Founding Membership (currently $79 per year). Prices are shown at checkout and may change for future purchases; a change never affects a purchase already made.

Pre-orders. During our launch period, Reports may be sold as pre-orders: you are charged at purchase and we deliver the Report within the timeframe stated at checkout (currently 7 days after you complete the full quiz). Pre-order funds are held separately until delivery.

Refunds. Our Refund Policy is part of these Terms. In summary: a Report purchase (including any pre-order) is fully refundable, no questions asked, until 30 days after the Report is delivered; a Founding Membership is fully refundable within 30 days of first purchase or of any renewal charge. Request a refund from your account page or by replying to any email from us; we process refunds within 24 hours of the request.

Payments are processed by Stripe under its terms. Taxes, if any apply, are shown at checkout.

6. Founding Membership — automatic renewal terms

7. Acceptable use

Do not: use the service if you are under 18; enter information about a child you are not authorised to describe; attempt to access other accounts or data; interfere with the service; use automated means to submit responses (except accessibility tools); misrepresent our results as a diagnosis or clinical finding; or use the service in a way that violates law.

8. Research participation and content

If you agree to an interview, read-aloud session or other research, a separate written release governs recording, use and withdrawal. Nothing in these Terms gives us permission to use your name, likeness or voice publicly.

9. Privacy and consent records

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how you delete it. Each time you accept these Terms or the Privacy Policy — at signup and again at checkout — we store a record of the version accepted, the time, your IP address and the exact text you agreed to. When we materially change either document we will ask you to accept the new version before you continue.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE AND ALL RESULTS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR THAT RESULTS WILL BE CORRECT OR USEFUL FOR YOUR CHILD. RESULTS ARE EDUCATIONAL DESCRIPTIONS, NOT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE, AND YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DECISION YOU MAKE ABOUT YOUR CHILD.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, Family Insights LLC'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, AND WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THESE LIMITS, SO THEY MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any claim, you agree to email legal@howtheyrewired.com and give us 30 days to resolve it informally.

13. Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms, with a refund of any unused prepaid membership term unless the violation involved fraud or misuse of a child's information. Sections 2, 4, 9–12 survive termination.

14. Changes to these Terms

We will post a new version with a new effective date. For material changes we will ask you to re-accept before continuing. Continued use after non-material changes is acceptance.
